Thanksgiving Every Day

Every November we are reminded to give thanks. For some the holiday has been reduced to ''Turkey Day'', the emphasis being placed on the traditional meal of turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie, etc.. For some it means gathering with family and friends that we don't see often, telling stories of childhood and times gone by. And for still others, it has simply become the day before ''Black Friday'', when the frenzy of Christmas shopping really begins. But do we really need a holiday to remember to give thanks ? Should we ? When we have so much to be thankful for every day ? When His goodness and mercy are new every morning, and have given us another day ? Lamentations 3:22-23 22) It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23) They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. I read something once that really gave me pause. . . . It said ''What if you only had tomorrow what you thanked God for today ?'' Wow ! That really rocked me ! It caused me to ask myself, ''How thankful am I ?'' As Christians, we are called to be thankful . . . . Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. We're to be thankful to Him for everything He does, for all His blessings, in front of others . . . . 1 Chronicles 16:8 Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. We're to pass it down to our children and our children's children. . . . Psalm 79:13 So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations. We're to give thanks in everything we do . . . . Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. We're to give thanks for others who perhaps aren't thankful themselves . . . . 1 Timothy 2:1-2 1) I exhort therfore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2) For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. We're to give thanks because it sets us apart. It makes us recognizable as His people. . . . Psalm 97:12 Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. Psalm 106:47 Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise. Psalm 140:13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence. We all have something to be thankful to God for every day ! If we're breathing, we should thank God ! We live in a country that allows us to serve God, churches where doors are open for us to enter into His house, where we can read and share His Word ! We have a Savior, and a blessed hope for eternity ! We have been given the revelation, and have received the good news of the gospel ! We have been saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost ! Our Lord Jesus is coming back for us to take us home to be with Him forever ! 1 Thessalonians 4: 16-17 16) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with him in the clouds, to meet him in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. And lastly, as Christians, we seek His will. . . . 1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. We can never truly thank Him enough for His love, His sacrifice, His mercy, His goodness, His Word, His promises ! If He never did another thing for me, I could still never do enough to thank Him for all He's already done for me ! I never want to take Him or His gifts to me for granted ! I want to always be thankful, not just on Thanksgiving day, but Every Day ! A Thankful Heart Take nothing for granted, for whenever you do the ???joy of enjoying??? is lessened for you - For we rob our own lives much more than we know when we fail to respond or in any way show our thanks for the blessings that daily are ours . . . The warmth of the sun, the fragrance of flowers, the beauty of twilight, the freshness of dawn, the coolness of dew on a green velvet lawn, the kind little deeds so thoughtfully done, the favors of friends and the love that someone unselfishly gives us in a myriad of ways, expecting no payment and no words of praise- Oh, great is our loss when we no longer find a thankful response to things of this kind, for the joy of enjoying and the fullness of living are found in the heart that is filled with thanksgiving.
