There was a movie that came out in 1994 that everyone is familiar with called Forrest Gump. And in it, his mother told him that "life is like a box of choc'lates Forrest, you never know what you're gonna get."
I guess that little nugget of wisdom is true for anyone without a relationship with Jesus Christ. To them, each day is uncertain, a toss up if you will. Constantly trying to defend themselves against what life is continually throwing at them. Like trying to balance on driftwood as the waves crash over them from every direction. They are without a lifeguard on the sea that is life.
For me, it's different. I have an anchor in life's ocean, and my Lifeguard walks on water. My life may be a box of chocolates, but because of my relationship with Jesus Christ, I know exactly what I'm going to get.
I get a Savior ! He gave His life to save me from a life of sin ! He rescues me in every situation !
2 Samuel 22:3
The God of my of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest from violence.
A Redeemer who paid the cost for my soul . . . .
Thus saith the Lord; thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the lord thy God which teacheth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.
A Friend who gave His life for me . . . .
13) Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14) Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
A Father who wants the best for me . . . .
Fear not little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
My advocate who pleads my case . . . .
1 John 2:1
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
A Comforter, the Holy Ghost, who is with me at all times . . . .
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
My Guide who leads me . . . .
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
My Hope for tomorrow . . . .
By whom also we have access by faith into this wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of god.
Who is my Strength . . . .
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear ? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid ?
We know that life is fleeting, a vapor . . . .
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life ? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Grass that withereth . . . .
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away.
Being a Christian doesn't mean that life will be perfect, that we will never suffer. But it does mean that, in every situation, Jesus will be there, all that we need. It means that we are never alone or forgotten.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9
8 ) We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
9) Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.
Life is uncertain, to be sure, as day turns into night and night into day. But it is possible to face each day without fear, with peace.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
So, my life may be like a box of chocolates, an assortment of good, bad, happy, sad. But because of my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, because of my life in Him, I'm not afraid of what I'll get. Because I know that He holds each piece in His hand, and it's wrapped in His love.
